Camping season is almost here, with many fond memories, fresh air, and new adventures. It also means, however, that you’re going to need to update your camping checklist. And, as an RV owner, you might feel pretty proud that you own an RV. However, you should remember that it still needs to be taken care of if you want it to last. That’s why we have created a preventative maintenance checklist here at Rich’s RV Center to help you stay on top of camper maintenance.

There’s nothing more annoying or worrying than taking a long trip with your family or loved one, only to find out that your camper’s air conditioner doesn’t work when you pull it into camp. Or your awning leaks or your generator won’t start. These issues create a negative camper experience and can spoil your trip. Instead of suffering through your vacation, keep on top of your camper maintenance with a checklist of things to check prior to any camping or vacation.

Here are some of the most important camper maintenance tasks before you hit the road.

Check all tires and lights.

Check to make certain that your headlights and taillights are in proper working order and that all of your lights are functioning. A backup of a spare or emergency light is also a great idea.

Check awning and mirrors.

Before you leave on your next camping trip, take a few minutes to double-check and adjust your camper. Check your awning and mirrors to make sure everything is secured and functioning correctly.

Check batteries and on/off switch.

A perfect camping trip begins long before you reach your destination. The last thing you want is to arrive at your campsite to find your trailer’s battery dead or your camper’s gas engine inoperable.

Clean all vents and vents screens

Check the vents in your vehicle, inside and out. Clean any vents or vents screens that appear dirty. Inspect the brake pads and rotors. Drivers should inspect their brake pads and rotors before every trip. If they feel uneven or spongy, they should be replaced.

Drain water in the tank

It only takes a few minutes to drain the water and inspect the tank to ensure no water remains. This is particularly important if you are leaving for an extended period of time or if there is a chance of water freezing. You don’t want to be stuck on the side of the road with a dead battery and no way to get home!

Fill the fresh water tank.

Before you hit the road, you want to know that your equipment is good to go. Filling the freshwater tanks ensures everything is in top working order.

If you are like most people, you own an RV or camper that you regularly take on the road. You may have even had problems in the past when it came to maintaining it, especially if you were inexperienced with doing repairs. That said, staying on top of your RV or camper maintenance makes sense. Not only will you be extending the life of a vehicle that can be quite costly, but you will also be ensuring that you and your passengers are safe while travelling.

Owning a camper tends to force you to spend more time outdoors than you probably ever would if not for the sheer fact that most of them are quite large. But getting out on the road may be easy: maintaining it and finding the parts you need when you need it can be a much bigger headache.

When it comes to keeping on top of your camper repairs, it’s essential to make sure you do it the right way, so here are a few tips that should help you. Firstly, having the right knowledge is key, so it’s important to read the instruction manual that comes with your camper every year, so you know exactly what to do if something goes wrong.

It’s also important to make sure you only buy quality components for your camper, so it’s built to last. Finally, if you think it requires repairs, it’s a good idea to get it fixed as soon as possible. You don’t want to be stuck somewhere in the middle of nowhere with a broken camper, so it’s good to get it dealt with before it gets any worse.

Camper maintenance is an important task. A failure to maintain them may result in major mishaps in the future.
