Wouldn’t you just love to take a selfie with the Statue of Liberty, stand on top of the Eiffel Tower, pose with the Pisa Tower, go gondola riding in Venice and eat Tacos in Mexico? It is a dream many share. So what stops us? Unfortunately, we live in a world divided by borders and not to forget the long distances. If only we had a private jet and a free pass to go anywhere we please. But since most of us don’t, let’s just make the best of the situation. Being a budget traveler for years, I personally know how hard it can get. Sometimes you have to sell your airline miles online to give your cash flows a boost while sometimes you may have to earn them with great effort in order to afford a flight. The effort and planning that goes into budget traveling is immense. But the end reward is fruitful. You get to discover the world and make amazing memories in different parts of the world.

  1. Prefer Breakfast buffets

When choosing a hotel, prefer a deal which includes a breakfast buffet. Have a hearty meal in the morning before venturing out to discover a new destination. This way you can easily skip lunch and manage just fine with a cheap snack if the need arises. When you aggregate the cost of meals during a travel trip, it is then that you realize how major an expense it is.

  1. Explore the lesser explored regions

Generally people opt to go for generic tourist destinations. Being a budget traveler gives you an option to be adventurous. Explore the areas not developed for attracting tourists. Trust me, they are as fun to explore as a typical tourist spot. In fact, the thrill element adds more charm to the whole experience. Plus you get to save money.

  1. Opt for free of cost exploring

With the right research, you can come across multiple locations in a city where you are not charged money for a visit. Beautiful lakes, jungle treks, parks and waterfalls are just a few common examples.

  1. Hitchhiking

Hitchhiking as a mode transport is not the safest and most reliable option but if managed fine, you can save a whole lot of money. But make sure you take the necessary precautions and not be completely irresponsible.

  1. Share a hostel

This is for times when the travel budget is really low. Hostels are a budget traveler’s best friend and a shared one means saving money significantly.

  1. Join a loyalty program

Loyalty programs earn you miles and miles help travelers gain numerous discounts and rewards. A loyalty program like the name suggests rewards you for your loyalty to a single airline. The rewards come in handy during traveling trips, especially when you are purchasing an airline ticket. Airline miles can be bought as well as earned. They are redeemable against flights, hotels and rental cars. All three activities essential to a travel trip. That should give you an idea as to how important miles are to a budget traveler.
